Swinney High on ‘That Next Group’ of Clemson Wideouts

On Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney reiterated that the Tigers have a half-dozen wide receivers that they feel are “interchangeable” at the position.

“We’ve got six guys that really we think are interchangeable, and it’s going to be great competition, but we’re going to have great depth,” Swinney said during his “Tiger Sports Hour” radio show on WCCP 105.5 FM The Roar .

That group of wideouts includes redshirt sophomore Antonio Williams, junior Adam Randall, sophomore Tyler Brown, redshirt junior Troy Stellato and redshirt sophomore Cole Turner – as well as talented true freshman Bryant Wesco.

“He came in, in January. He’s right there with all those guys,” Swinney said of Wesco.

Swinney also feels good about what he called “that next group” of receivers behind those at the top of the depth chart, including Wesco’s fellow highly touted true freshman, T.J. Moore, who enrolled at Clemson this summer.

“This guy’s silky,” Swinney said of Moore. “Everything he does is natural – everything – and he kind of started at a deficit because he’s got some really experienced, talented dudes in front of him that just know more, and he didn’t get in here until the summer. But man, he’s closed the gap from a knowledge standpoint, and it’s just fun to see his natural skillset take over. This kid is going to be a really, really great player. He’s going to really come on and help us as we go throughout the year, for sure.”

Another receiver Swinney is high on is redshirt freshman Misun “Tink” Kelley, a dynamic athlete from nearby Daniel High School who played in two games while redshirting last year.

“(Kelley) has had a great camp, and he’s a guy that’s going to help this football team this year,” Swinney said. “He’s a really, really strong athlete. He’s a very tough competitor. Takes a lot of pride in his performance and just how he goes about things. Just a kid that I think has got a lot of great moments ahead for him.”

Swinney also had praise for another redshirt freshman, Noble Johnson, a former four-star prospect from Rockwall (Texas) High School who appeared in four games during his 2023 redshirt year.

“He’s another kid that redshirted last year that really just had some maturing to do,” Swinney said. “He physically is gifted and physically, if you see him, you go ‘wow,’ but the mentality and the mindset doesn’t match up with the physical part, and that’s where he needed to mature. And I’m really proud of him because he’s worked his butt off this summer. He’s been all about his business this fall camp.”

“So, we’ve got a really good group of guys that I think will be positioned to help this team,” Swinney said.

Swinney’s 14 th -ranked Clemson team is set to open the 2024 season against No. 1 Georgia in the Aflac Kickoff Game in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday (12 p.m., ABC).
