Klubnik Details Message He Delivered to Teammates Ahead of Georgia

Cade Klubnik continues to grow into the type of leader every offense needs.

The junior quarterback believes it is a process that has happened naturally, as the longer he has been a part of the program, the better understanding he has of his teammates.

“I think that quality relationships take time,” Klubnik said. “And obviously being here for my third year now, relationships will naturally grow deeper and deeper.”

Now that he has assumed that type of leadership role in the locker room, Klubnik feels a responsibility to do everything he can to help lead the 14th ranked Tigers to a season-opening upset win over top-ranked Georgia in Atlanta on Saturday.

That means not only with his play on the field, but also how he conducts himself off the field.

“I just kind of woke up Monday morning and I didn’t wake up like with this energy that came out of nowhere,” Klubnik said. “I woke up the same I have the last four weeks since we started fall camp, and with the same mentality I’ve kind of had all year.”

Klubnik is looking to help the Clemson offense take that next step in year number two in Garrett Riley’s system, as well as improve on a sophomore campaign that saw him throw for 2,844 yards with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Although, if the Tigers are to take that jump, Klubnik believes it all starts with the Tigers’ approach mentally and as the team kicked off game week, his message was simple.

“I just kind of spoke that to the team like, hey, if you’re waking up with a different energy today than you have been every single day of fall camp, we’ve been doing fall camp wrong,” said Klubnik. “Because we should have had that mentality all fall camp, and I think we have had that mentality all of fall camp.”
