Clemson Freshman Makes ESPN's List of Top CFB Newcomers

This week, ESPN released a list of the top 100 newcomers you need to know for the 2024 college football season (subscription required) after surveying coaches and staff members across the country regarding who they see as the most impactful true freshman prospects and transfer portal pickups.

One Clemson newcomer made the list – true freshman wide receiver Bryant Wesco.

Wesco — ESPN’s No. 7-ranked receiver and No. 28 overall prospect nationally in the 2024 recruiting class — was named on ESPN’s list of top newcomers as one of the “freshmen to watch,” or in other words, the “ten top-100 recruits who will have an opportunity to make a name for themselves as true freshman contributors.”

Here’s what the ESPN article had to say about the 6-foot-2, 180-pound Wesco, who enrolled early at Clemson back in January:

The second-highest-rated prospect in the Tigers’ 2024 class, Wesco turned in a strong spring camp, then increased his listed weight by 10 pounds over the summer. Clemson returns experienced pass catchers in Tyler Brown, Troy Stellato and Antonio Williams, with Cade Klubnik back under center this fall. The Tigers have been led in receptions by a freshman six times since Dabo Swinney took over in 2009. Could Wesco be next?

Wesco recorded 109 receptions for 1,903 yards and scored 29 touchdowns during his prep career at Midlothian (Texas) High. He posted 36 catches for 619 yards and 13 touchdowns in just seven games as a senior after hauling in 56 passes for 1,072 yards and 12 scores as a junior.
