Dabo Swinney still believes in this Clemson team.

Even after the 34-3 drubbing suffered at the hands of top-tanked Georgia on Saturday, the head coach insists he saw enough good on film to have him confident in his team’s ability to bounce back and have a successful season.

“All correctable stuff,” Swinney said on his radio show on Monday night. “The physicality, the toughness, the speed, our guys overall being in shape and all that stuff. The mentality, all that stuff was really good to see.”

While the final score indicates a one-sided affair, the Tigers did hang tough in the first half, holding the Bulldogs to just six points. Swinney then pointed to the Tigers blowout win over Alabama in the 2018 national title game as one example of how a game can get away from a good team. Something thag happened in the second half on Saturday as Georgia outscored Clemson 28-3 over the final two quarters.

“I really believe if you play the right way you will get the results,” Swinney said. “It’s a painful lesson, again it kind of got away, but sometimes that happens. We won the national championship 44-16, and that’s a couple of plays and the momentum gets rolling in games like that and it can get away from you.”

Despite the way the Tigers lost in Atlanta on Saturday, Swinney maintains he is still fully confident in his team and he has faith that they will get it turned around in the right direction. And that begins on Saturday night when Clemson hosts App State (8pm/ACCN) in the home opener.

“The things I look at as a coach, I really believe we have a chance to be a good football team,” said Swinney. “I am excited about it. I know a lot of people outside will say that guys is just crazy but that is fine, I believe in this team. Can’t wait to ger back on the field with them in the Valley and get down that hill and let’s get after App.”
