Swinney Admits There were Things Tigers Didn't Handle well

CLEMSON — Dabo Swinney says his team did not handle adversity very well in Saturday’s loss to top-ranked Georgia.

With his team down six points at halftime, the Bulldogs moved the football right down the field and grabbed a two touchdown lead. The offense countered with a 26-yard field goal, but the defense came back out and gave up another quick score and the Tigers were down 17 points.

Swinney felt it was a great opportunity for his players to continue fighting and keep playing when they were facing adversity against a College Football Playoff caliber team.

“I did not think we handle that part of it well. I really didn’t,” Swinney said.

The Tigers, who host App State on Saturday in their home opener, faced adversity throughout the game against Georgia. They just not seem to recover after making negative plays or missing tackles.

“It’s 13-3 right there. ‘Okay! Let’s go play.’ Boom! There is a missed tackle, it is 20-3, and all of sudden it gets away from you a little bit,” Swinney said. “That momentum in that environment, but again, that is great experience for our team.

“That is a great experience and a great opportunity for us to grow. There will be more coming down the road.”

Clemson and App State will kick off at 8 p.m. Saturday night on the ACCN.
