CLEMSON —  Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney gave an injury update to starting left guard Marcus Tate following Wednesday’s practice.

The senior sustained an injury in the second half of the Tigers’ loss to Georgia last Saturday.

“He is getting better each day, for sure,” Swinney said.

Tate is one of two offensive linemen, at the moment, who are questionable for Saturday’s home opener against App State. The 25th-ranked Tigers host the Mountaineers in an 8 p.m., kickoff on the ACCN.

Reserve offensive lineman Trent Howard is also questionable. He missed last week’s game with the same injury.

“He was not ready to go the other day. He is probably close this week,” Swinney said. “We should get him back soon.”

Tate, who has battled multiple injuries in his career, was injured early in the third quarter against Georgia. He managed to walk off the field slowly after being slow to get up.

“He just got, I think, rolled up,” Swinney said.

Tate joined Clemson’s program as a four-star prospect from Florida back in 2021. Despite his injury setbacks, Tate has seen a lot of action for the Tigers as a multi-year starter. The 6-foot-5, 315-pounder logged 1,843 career offensive snaps over 32 games (27 starts) entering this season.

Swinney also said earlier this week that running back Jarvis Green is back at practice.

“It is good to get him back rolling. (Monday) night was his first practice, so we are still working him back through practice protocol,” the Clemson coach said. “So, we will see where he is after a few practices.”
