The Jacksonville Jaguars lost a heartbreaker in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, falling to the Miami Dolphins on a 52-yard field goal as time expired that gave Miami a 20-17 win at home.

Former Clemson stars Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne accounted for Jacksonville’s two touchdowns in the contest.

Etienne found the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter for the Jaguars’ first points of the season before Lawrence threw a dime to Brian Thomas Jr. for a 14-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving the Jags a 14-0 lead.

Etienne nearly scored a second touchdown late in the third quarter when Jacksonville led 17-7, but unfortunately, he lost a fumble into the end zone that resulted in a Dolphins touchback and then a Dolphins touchdown on the next play. Later, after Miami tied the game on a 37-yard field goal with under five minutes remaining, the Dolphins sacked Lawrence on back-to-back plays to set up their game-winning drive.

Lawrence finished 12 of 21 passing for 162 yards and a touchdown, while Etienne ran for 44 yards and a score on 12 carries to go with two catches for 15 yards.

Lawrence, Etienne and the Jags host former Clemson star Deshaun Watson and the Cleveland Browns next Sunday.
