CLEMSON – As No. 22 Clemson comes off its big victory over App State, the Tigers have the first of two bye weeks this season.

Tight end Jake Briningstool spoke with the media earlier this week after the win.

–Briningstool was asked about the opportunity to leave a legacy at Clemson and become one of the best tight ends to play for the Tigers. He said, “just to even be mentioned in that category is an honor for me…just continuing to do my job, be the example, let guys watch me and then be a reflection of the tight end standard we’ve set here. Something pretty cool, something I set out to do when I committed to Clemson back in 2020.”

–The connection of the offense came together against App State with Briningstool having 100 of the 460 receiving yards on seven catches. The senior said offensive coordinator Garrett Riley set a mindset that the offense is “going to work every single day trying to build that chemistry…we’re starting to see the benefits of our hard work.”

-Briningstool and the offense go against the defense during fall camp and practice allows each side to challenge the other and make them better. He said, “we have a really good defense, so I think going against them every single say, iron sharpening iron…now we’re on the same team.”

–The tight end sang high praise for quarterback Cade Klubnik and his historic night against the Mountaineers. He said “it was a lot of fun just to see him smiling, him just back there relaxed. He just looked like a kid at recess.” He added, “I think that was good for our confidence just to be able to see what we’re capable of.”

Clemson finished the night with 712 total yards and scored touchdowns on each of its first eight possessions.
