Clemson Commit Dominates in Friday Night Win, Recaps Latest Visit - Adams what he called one of the better performances of his high school career

FLORENCE- The South Florence Bruins were in bad need of a win on Friday night and going in Clemson commit Amare Adams was determined to do his part to ensure that happened.

Adams was as disruptive as ever, blowing up the very first play from scrimmage in helping lead the Bruins to a 49-14 win over Fort Dorchester. The win came at an opportune time, as South Florence came into the contest having lost two straight.

The 4A Bruins have started the season with four consecutive matchups against 5A competition. Those two losses both came on the road. One to Summerville and one to Northwestern. Adams fully believes playing that kind of schedule will have South Florence fully ready for region play that begins next week.

“It prepares you really well,” Adams said. “Because (head) coach (Drew) Marlow wanted us to be on a tough schedule so it can get us better. And we took two losses, and we really needed that. This is the game where we really bounced back and showed who we really are.”

The 6-foot-6, 300-pound Adams is expected to play defensive tackle at the collegiate level, but in South Florence’s 3-4 scheme, Adams lines up at end, routinely switching sides.

The night began with Adams blowing right through the Fort Dorchester offensive line on the very first play and recording a tackle for loss. That would set the tone for the rest of the game. Unofficially, he would finish the night with three total tackles, with two of those going for a loss. He also had three quarterback pressures and a pass deflection. And Adams only played the first two quarters as South raced out to a 43-0 halftime lead.

Even more impressive is the fact that he is able to have that kind of impact while facing a double-team on almost every play and teams routinely running away from him.

When asked if this was one of the better performances of his high school career, Adams responded quickly.

“Yes, it absolutely is,” he said. “One thing about that, coach Marlowe and some of my teammates, they were chewing me out, and they were really motivating me to play harder. So tonight I really played with everything I got.”

Adams has been committed to Clemson since December of last year. He made his return to campus for the Tigers’ 66-20 thumping of App State last Saturday night.

“It was good,” Adams said. “Just having fun with Coach Swinney and coach Easton, just vibing down there. It’s always a good time going down to Clemson.”

While the record-setting display that the offense put on in the win certainly stood out, it was the reaction from the crowd that really left a lasting impression on the 4-star recruit.

“Oh, I loved the crowd, man,” said Adams. “They were electric, and they were electric for all four quarters, not just that first half. They were electric all four quarters. I just loved it.”
