CLEMSON – Clemson will continue conference play at Memorial Stadium as Stanford comes to town for the first time. Running back Jay Haynes spoke with the media on Tuesday about his journey during his time with the Tigers.

–Haynes was asked how his time at Clemson has been. He replied, “it’s been a great journey considering my first year I went through a bunch of injuries. In my career, I really hadn’t had any injuries until I got here.” He added that his journey is “just been staying the course, keeping a routine for every day, just keep doing the same things over and over so you can get a great routine to help prevent any of the stuff happening.”

–When Haynes came to Clemson, he stood behind Will Shipley and Phil Mafah. Haynes said he was “taking it in, learning everything I can from veteran people. You never want to take that type of thing for granted at all.”

–The redshirt freshman has learned many lessons from Mafah through the experiences he’s had. He said the most important of these is “don’t be nervous just go out there and play. Don’t have anything to slow you down, just go have fun.”

–Everyone heard repeatedly what this offense had the ability to do. After the gut-punch from Georgia, the offense turned things around in the last two games. Haynes said, “this right here is not shocking to me honestly…it’s great to see it out of practice and the hard work that we put in during the spring and the summer come to the lights on Saturday night in Death Valley.”

–Haynes was also asked what it’s like to have CJ Spiller as his running back coach. He said his dad brings it up all that time and that “it’s great to be able to be behind CJ Spiller because he’s already played elite and at the top level of the game, so he knows everything about the game.”
