Riley on What Else He Wants to See from Clemson Offense

As good as Clemson’s offense has been over the past two games, offensive coordinator Garrett Riley still wants to see more.

After managing just 188 yards of offense in the season-opening loss to Georgia, the Tigers have racked up more than 1,200 in wins over App State and NC State. While Riley is pleased with the production, now he wants to see his unit maintain this level of efficiency moving forward.

“The biggest thing is just the consistency,” Riley said. “I mean, we can’t just be really good at this week and not so good the next week. That is the whole mindset right now.”

Despite the eye-popping numbers that Clemson has put up over the past two games, Riley noted its more consistency that he wants to see.

“There’s some flashes of some great things in different areas. Situational football, big plays, running the ball, throwing the ball, whatever,” Riley said. “But we just got to make sure that we’re consistent and that we continue to improve.”

There are multiple factors that have led to the turnaround, including quarterback Cade Klubnik currently playing the best football of his collegiate career. The junior signal caller has thrown for eight touchdowns and rushed for three more, while throwing just one interception.

The Tigers have also seen a lot of improvement up front along the offensive line in Matt Luke’s first season leading the group. Add in the receivers are now mostly healthy and playing to their potential and it has made for an extremely explosive offense.

The key now is finding a way to keep playing at that level, one game at a time.

“If App State and NC State are as well as we play all year then we are not going to be happy,” Riley added. “So we got to be consistent and consistently improved.”
