Game Really 'Slowing Down' for Sammy Brown

CLEMSON – It’s hard to argue against Sammy Brown being one of the fastest developing underclassmen on the defensive side of the ball.

The freshman linebacker went from playing no defensive snaps against Georgia to recording the first two sacks of his college career in the 40-14 win over Stanford on Saturday. He finished the night with three tackles and a pass defended. Even more impressive is the fact that he did it while playing just 15 snaps.

After a spring that saw the former 5-star recruit facing a little adversity when it comes to adjusting to the speed of the game, Brown feels like he is now starting to settle in nicely.

“It’s just a blessing,” Brown said. “I’m just thankful to be here. Thankful to everyone around me for bringing me along coming in the spring. It was rough. It was hard when I first got here. But it’s slowing down. It’s not there quite yet. I am not a perfect player, but it is definitely slowing down.”

Brown has totaled 20 tackles to date, with 5.5 going a for a loss to go along with the two sacks. Four games into his Clemson career, the freshman feels like he is right about where he expected to be from a developmental standpoint.

“I’m about where I thought I was going to be,” Brown said. “Obviously, I am definitely not going to be perfect. If I can contribute some way or another, whether it is punt return or when we go three backer sets, I just want to contribute to the defense one way or another.”
