The Coloradoan is proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series for this high school year, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes.

There are five nominees every week, and fans can vote every Monday through Wednesday at coloradoan.com/sports/high-school-sports.

The final weeks of the high school sports calendar is upon us, with only girls golf and baseball still in (local) action after the state track & field championships wrapped up last week.

Here is the 29th Athlete of the Week edition of the 2023-24 school year for May 12-18.

You can find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Voting is open until 11 p.m. Wednesday each week, with the winner announced on Thursday at Coloradoan.com/sports.

Fans can nominate top-performing athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.

The following athletes are nominated for their performances last week (May 12-18):

    • Isabel Allori, Liberty Common girls track & field: The Eagles' senior went 4-for-4 at the state meet, winning Class 3A 800, 1,600, 3,200 and 4x800-meter relay state championships while setting three new state meet records to finish her career as one of the most decorated local high runners ever.
    • Abbi Beld, Fossil Ridge girls golf: The SaberCats' sophomore shot a 3-over-par 74 to win the 5A Northern Regional individual title. Her performance also helped Fossil Ridge win the regional team title and advance the entire team to this week's state tournament.
    • Ethan Fillinger, Windsor baseball: The Wizards' junior was instrumental to Windsor's romp through regional play last week. He had 6 RBIs over two games with a triple and a double, while also pitching five hitless shutout innings with 10 strikeouts in a 9-1 regional championship win over Discovery Canyon.
    • Gino Maccarini, Fort Collins baseball: The Lambkins' senior was a key part of Fort Collins' power surge en route to a regional title that earned them a state tournament bid. Maccarini had five RBIs and five hits across two games as part of a 32-run offensive explosion against Arapahoe and Legend.
    • Natalie Washburn, Timnath girls track & field: The Cubs' sophomore repeated as state champion in the 2A girls 800 meters while also running on a championship 4x800 relay unit and runner-up 4x400 squad. Her performance helped Timnath Middle-High win its first team state championship with the 2A girls title.
