Larimer County commissioners will consider adding a transportation tax measure to the November ballot during their administrative matters meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

If the 0.15% sales and use tax (15 cents per $100, exempting groceries) is approved by voters, it could generate around $15 million each year to fund infrastructure projects.

“These projects, including roadway and bridge safety enhancements, pedestrian crossing improvements, updated signaling, bicycle accommodations, and increased access to transit, have the potential to improve the daily lives of Larimer County residents significantly,” a news release from the county says. “The measure also aims to improve the resilience of transportation infrastructure against natural disasters and enhance travel corridors between communities to support safer and more efficient commuting and recreating.”

The county started exploring this avenue earlier this year based on data it gathered.

“Recent polling by Larimer County shows that community members are increasingly concerned about rising traffic and declining safety on the county's roads and bridges,” the release says.

If commissioners vote to put the measure on the ballot Tuesday, the public will get to decide on the tax in the upcoming election.

Tuesday's meeting will be held in person at 9 a.m. at 200 W. Oak St. (hearing room, first floor) and streamed online on the county’s website and YouTube channel .
