When Fossil Ridge needed its star receiver, he came up clutch.

Marcus Mozer capped off a huge night in the SaberCats' season opener, lifting them to a thrilling 24-17 comeback win over Loveland on Friday night at PSD Stadium.

With Fossil trailing 17-16 in the final minute, Mozer took a quick curl 36 yards to the house while leaving Loveland defenders in the dust.

It was his second touchdown of the night, and he was the only SaberCat to reach the endzone. For good measure, Mozer added the ensuing two-point conversion to secure an all-important seven-point lead with 24 seconds left.

The San Diego State commit is the No. 2 Class of 2025 Colorado college recruit (per 247 Sports' rankings) after 940 receiving yards, 10 offensive touchdowns and two kick-return scores as a junior last season.

He dazzled right out the gates this fall, accounting for nearly 60 of Fossil's 72 yards on its game-winning drive and also breaking up several passes on defense.

Fossil Ridge struggled at times with red zone offense against an opportunistic Red Wolves' defense and kicker Brayden Higgins was stellar with three field goals.

But Mozer was the ultimate difference maker in a crucial win to open a much-anticipated season.
