Fossil Ridge football star is Fort Collins-area Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week

It's no surprise that our first full weekend of high school football gave us the first Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week winner on the gridiron!

Fossil Ridge football player Marcus Mozer took top honors in the Fort Collins area for Aug. 26-31 after scoring a game-winning touchdown in the SaberCats' 24-17 comeback win over Loveland last Friday.

With Fossil trailing by one point inside a minute to play, Mozer took a quick curl 36 yards to the house for the game-winning score, his second touchdown of the game.

The three-star wide receiver recruit and San Diego State commit had a monster all-around game, catching 11 passes for 147 yards and making six tackles on defense.

After a star performance like that, SaberCat fans showed up in the fan poll, giving Mozer 77% of the vote.

That ultimately won him Athlete of the Week over these other fantastic nominees :

• Jamie Sawyer, Rocky Mountain softball (runner-up with 13.1%)
• Justin Cranford, Fort Collins football
• Kadence Marsh, Windsor volleyball
• Austin Barry, Fossil Ridge boys golf

The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees every Monday, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday and the winner named on Thursday.

Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the nominees each week.
