Fort Collins has a time machine. Or more accurately — and for the purposes of this story — it has 10.

Luckily for you, they'll all be on display as part of the 40th Annual Fort Collins Historic Homes Tour Sept. 21, giving glimpses into Fort Collins' past.

Cross the threshold of the historic Avery House, 328 W. Mountain Ave., and you'll be in 1879 — when prominent Fort Collins banker Franklin Avery built the stately Victorian home for his family.

Venture into the Emma Malaby Grocery building, 313 N. Meldrum St., and you'll be back in the neighborhood grocery's heyday — literally, back when the store sold hay as well as firewood, coal, locally ground flour and other grocery items from around 1906 until it was boarded up in 1943.

Visit the Nelson Farm's milk house, 3101 S. Lemay Ave., and you'll envision what it might have been like back in the 1880s when the small stone building — now the last vestige of John Nelson's once-sprawling dairy farm — was surrounded by Jersey cows instead of housing developments.

The properties will be on display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $35 at the Poudre Landmarks Foundation website.
