After serving as the Buckeyes ' starting quarterback for much of the 2023 football season, McCord entered the transfer portal before Ohio State's Cotton Bowl loss to Missouri.

McCord transferred to Syracuse , where he was named the Orange's starting quarterback for the 2024 season.
