Ohio State football starters Donovan Jackson, Cody Simon available for Western Michigan

Ohio State starting left guard Donovan Jackson and middle linebacker Cody Simon are set to be available against Western Michigan on Saturday night, a team spokesperson confirmed.

But it remains to be determined if they will play any snaps against the Broncos , a decision that might not be made until closer to the 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Both Jackson and Simon, who missed last Saturday’s season-opening win over Akron with unspecified injuries , participated in practices this week. Coach Ryan Day described them as day to day at multiple points and expressed hope they might return this weekend.

Jackson and Simon were officially out last week, though they warmed up before kickoff.

While the seniors were held out of the Buckeyes ' 52-6 victory over the Zips, Austin Siereveld started in place of Jackson at left guard, and Sonny Styles took over as the middle linebacker for Simon. With Styles sliding over, C.J. Hicks was the starting weak-side linebacker.

Jackson has been starting at guard for the Buckeyes 2022 and remains their most experienced offensive lineman, and Simon backed up Tommy Eichenberg the past two seasons after starting as a sophomore in 2021.

On the availability report the Buckeyes submitted to the Big Ten, neither Jackson nor Simon was among the group of players who were listed as out.

The unavailable list included offensive lineman Devontae Armstrong and safety Jayden Bonsu, as well as walk-ons TC Caffey and Reis Stocksdale. Caffey suffered a season-ending knee injury in July.
