October has arrived in Ohio, which means it’s spooky season.

Kids will be heading door-to-door for free candy, scary-looking decorations will cover houses, and some of you will be driving up to Sandusky for Cedar Point’s Halloweekend or visiting some of Ohio's 133 haunted houses .

But in the Buckeye State, it doesn’t end there. Ohio is home to at least 24 haunted must-visit areas that visitors can explore for the thrill of it, including locations with paranormal activity, eerie tunnels, and ghost sightings, according to the State of Ohio website .

Looking for some hair-raising adventures? Here’s are five well-known spooky spots, plus the full list of Ohio's haunted sites.

    1. Hocking Hills State Park in Logan

Located near Logan in Southeast Ohio, Hocking Hills State Park is a favorite place to hike and enjoy time in nature (or for a scenic fall drive) for many Ohioans. And, it’s also considered a spooky spot through their most notable attractions.

Old Man’s Cave got its name from a real person. Richard Roe, who lived in Old Man’s Cave in the 1800s, died from an accidental gunshot wound and has been said to haunt the attraction ever since.

Additionally, Ash Cave is said to be haunted. A ghost wearing a flowery dress is said to follow hikers on nearby trails, and visitors have reportedly heard drumming from the cave.

    2. Thurber House in Columbus

Have you ever driven by Jefferson Avenue in Columbus? Well, there’s a house called the Thurber House that’s haunted by a famous storyteller.

James Thurber, an American storyteller and cartoonist, lived on Jefferson Avenue with his family. After strange occurrences, Thurber himself felt like his home was haunted, as the house was built on the grounds of an old psychiatric hospital.

It remains a mystery if the ghosts that roam the house could either be from the Thurber family or patients from the asylum.

    3. Collingwood Arts Center in Toledo

Once a convent, the Collingwood Arts Center is one of the oldest and most haunted buildings in all of Toledo.

Visitors have attempted to capture paranormal activity, with sightings of ghosts and pairs of eyes. Nuns have been said to haunt various areas of the building, and apparently, the sound of a piano has been heard throughout the halls. The building holds events called " Ghost Hunt the CAC " to spot paranormal activity.

    4. Spring House Gazebo at Eden Park in Cincinnati

If you’ve been to Cincinnati, you may have heard of Eden Park , one of the city’s most popular attractions.

Strolling through this park is a ghostly woman wearing a black dress. Her name is Imogene, a bootlegger’s wife who was shot and killed in Eden Park in 1927. Imogene wanders around the Spring House Gazebo and Mirror Lake at this popular park.

    5. Licking County Historic Jail in Newark

Any gothic castle has an eerie feeling to it—in this case, this building in Newark was once a jail.

If you walk through the halls of the Licking County Historic Jail, you may hear cell doors slamming and jingling keys. Twenty-two people—three officers and nineteen inmates—died in this prison. Some visitors have seen shadows with strange lights and have heard bone-chilling whispers.

This attraction offers tours to visitors, and during the fall, it holds an event called the “Jail of Terror” between Sept. 13 and Nov. 2.
