A man from Grove City has pleaded guilty in federal court to felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from his participation in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

Dustin Martin, 30, pleaded to a felony charge of civil disorder and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, according to a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C.

Martin pushed barricades into police officers and walked around the inside of the building for approximately 45 minutes, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. The FBI arrested him in Grove City on June 21, 2023.

Martin also shared his participation in the Capitol attack on Facebook, then deleted his posts the next day.

“So now I can say I’ve been hit with rubber bullets, bear mace, pepper spray, tear gas, and wrestle with Capitol Police (expletive) yeah,” Martin shared on Facebook. “‘America (expletive)’ I’ll do it all over again too!”

Martin and his companion linked to his Grove City address, Cody Lee Tippett, drove from Columbus to attend former President Donald Trump’s speech to protesters. Trump told supporters that Biden was “an illegitimate president” and that “we will stop the steal.”

“We fight like hell, and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore,” Trump said .

Five people died during the insurrection at the Capitol, which delayed for several hours the eventual certification of the 2020 election with President Joe Biden as the winner.

U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan will sentence Martin on Feb. 7, 2025, in Washington, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Tippett plead guilty in December 2023. He received a 30-day prison sentence in April.

At least three men from Grove City have faced federal criminal repercussions from the riot: Martin, Tippett and Benjamin Michael Shuler. Shuler was arrested at a state prison in Lancaster in September 2023 and his case has not been resolved, federal court records show.

More than 1,532 people have been charged around the U.S. “for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol,” according to the release. Federal authorities have charged at least 79 Ohioans in the aftermath of the riot, The Dispatch has previously reported .

Martin’s case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington and the counterterrorism section of the Department of Justice National Security Division. The FBI’s field offices in Cincinnati and Washington investigated the case, with assistance from the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington.
