Ohio State football scored on its opening drive, thanks in part to a Will Kacmarek 32-yard catch on first-and-10 at the 11:58 mark of the first quarter.

Three plays later, Will Howard made a 1-yard run into the end zone.

NBC's broadcasters, including rules analyst Terry McAulay, argued that Kacmarek should not have been credited with the catch, saying Kacmarek never had control and Oregon's Jeffrey Bassa came away with the ball.

OSU rushed to take the subsequent snap, and the officials didn't have time to review the play.

If Kacmarek came down with the ball, OSU should have maintained possession. If Kacmarek never had control, Oregon should have been given the ball as the Ducks plainly came away with it. If both players came down with the ball, rule 7, article 6 states: "If a forward pass is caught simultaneously by opposing players inbounds, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the passing team."
