Ja Morant's debut Nike Ja 2 will be released on Thursday. Here's everything to know

Ja Morant's first full season as a Nike basketball signature sneaker athlete is over, and now it's time for the Ja 2.

The Nike Ja 2 is set to be released on Sept. 26, a little less than a month before the star Memphis Grizzlies point guard's regular season begins on Oct. 23. This will be Morant's second signature sneaker.

Morant became Nike basketball's 23rd signature sneaker athlete when he announced the debut of the Ja 1 on Christmas Day in 2022. Fans were able to get their hands on the shoes in the following months through various stores.

Multiple reports and photos at Morant's Murray State hall of fame induction teased the idea of an upcoming Ja 2. Here's everything to know about the sneaker.

About the Ja 2 sneaker

Like with the Nike Ja 1, Morant had a very on-hands approach with design and colorways. Nike designers created a second-generation silhouette with the idea of maximizing comfort and support. The silhouette contains a sidewall guardrail designed to maximize protection and stabilization.

The low-top design draws comparisons to the Ja 1 and other sneakers of prominent Nike basketball athletes. Morant will use the different colorways on the Ja 2 to reflect his rise to prominence as Nike basketball's first Gen Z signature athlete.

“From the Ja 1 to the Ja 2, the core things remain the same. The work ethic doesn’t change,” Morant says. “It’s about comfort, more bounce and bringing my fans into some different storytelling they may not know. We tell those stories through the colorways of my shoe.”

Debut release

Morant's first release on his second signature sneaker will be the "induction" Ja 2s. The first shoe will be available on SNKRS and in select markets like Memphis on Sept. 26. More Ja 2 apparel will be available on Oct. 8 as well as the global release of the shoe. Initial retail price will be $120.

The induction sneaker pays homage to Morant joining Murray State's hall of fame this past summer. With a taupe grey and cobalt bliss colorway, the multidirectional traction patterns across the sneaker tell the story of Morant training with oversized tractor tires.
