Nguyen of MMS, Ellender's Rockward voted this week's Barker Honda Athletes of the Week

The ballots have closed, and this week's Barker Honda Athletes of the Week in the Houma- and Thibodaux-area according to the fans are Jon Nguyen of Messiah Montessori tennis and Laijah Rockward of A.J. Ellender basketball.

Nguyen won his second straight ACEL state tennis championship last Saturday, and he received 51.1% of the vote. He beat out runner-up Brennan Champagne of Covenant Christian baseball and third-place finisher Chris Coleman of H.L. Bourgeois basketball.

Rockward was named MVP of Team Terrebonne in the Luke Ford Jr. All-Star Basketball Game. She received 39.4% of the vote, beating out runner-up Ava Hazzard of Vandebilt Catholic powerlifting and third-place Jaala Campbell of Assumption basketball.
