Senior-heavy Pirates return to the track
Track & field is a sport that benefits greatly from student leadership. The sport typically draws in big numbers, necessitating athletes to step up and help lead the program in places where the coaches can’t always be. The Waterloo track & field program will have no shortage of leaders in the spring of 2024. It all starts with the 15-member senior class. Eight girls and seven boys have been around the block a time or two as Pirates and bring a vital level of experience...
Marshall's returning experience eases transition to new coach
The Marshall baseball program has enjoyed a successful two-year stretch. The Cardinals took home a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) regional title in the spring of 2022 and finished in a three-way tie for first place in the Capitol — South conference last spring. Former head coach Shane Murphy, who had held that position since the spring of 2015, helped build the program to this level. With his departure, Sam Hernandez steps in to a winning culture. It’s something he’s already noticed, not only with...

Five of these nail-biters came in Capitol — South conference play. “We felt snakebitten at times last season,” Waterloo head coach Keith Setz said. “It’s really contributed to the hard work the guys have...

The Waterloo softball program achieved incredible heights in the spring of 2023. Cardinals return to the track for new season
The spring of 2023 was a favorable season for the Marshall track & field program. The Cardinals were represented at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state meet after missing the event entirely in 2022. A move down to Division 3 paid dividends as both the boys 4x100 and 4x200 meter relay teams qualified, as did one field event. Prior to the state meet, Marshall’s boys won a regional title and both the boys and girls competed fiercely at the Capitol Conference meet. Some vital...

The price of that regional title was the graduation of a talented six-member senior class as well as the resignation of head coach Erin Young. The cupboard is far from bare within the program...
