2023-24 marked a very competitive season of boys basketball in the Capitol - South conference. The teams entered the season all fairly evenly matched, making every matchup of vital importance. It was this environment that helped shape the Marshall program to be ready for the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament. The Cardinals entered the postseason prepared and came home with their third consecutive regional title. Before that, though, Marshall tied for third in the final Capitol - South conference standings alongside Cambridge at...
Three Pirates selected for Capitol - South postseason honors
It's been awhile since the Waterloo boys basketball program had a season as positive as 2023-24. They set new highs for the last decade in regular season and conference victories with eight and four, respectively. This uptick in success was reflected in the postseason awards handed out from the Capitol - South conference. Prior to this season, Waterloo's last first team all-conference selection came in 2015-16. Since then, the Pirates have had two second team all-conference selections and a handful of honorable mentions. ...
Waterloo VFW awards essay winners
For most organizations, 54 applications would be impressive, but for VFW Post 6614 in Waterloo, “only” receiving 54 submissions for their annual Patriot’s Pen essay contest was a “bad year.” The contest challenges students in 6th through 8th grades to submit a 300-400 word essay, for which the topic changes yearly. This year, students were asked “How Am I Inspired By America?” This year’s high school contest, Voices of Democracy,...

Three of the big motors that made the Waterloo girls basketball program go in 2023-24 have been recognized for their efforts. Waterloo notched the first season sweep of rival Marshall since the 2006-07 season and knocked off the No. 2 seed in their bracket in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament. In addition to those two Marshall wins, Waterloo won two more games in...

In the two following, Marshall bowed out in the sectional semifinal round. The most recent iteration of this trend came to be on Thursday, March 7. Three straight regional titles for Marshall boys basketball
Success in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) state tournament is beginning to feel inevitable for the Marshall boys basketball program. Entering this season the Cardinals had made it all the way to the Division 4 state semifinals in 2021-22 and upset the No. 1 seed in their bracket in 2022-23 for a second straight regional title. Making it a three-peat of regional titles would again take some hurdles in the 2024 edition of the state tournament. Given the No. 5 seed in Sectional 3...
