    This week's nominees for Courier Journal girls athlete of the week provided clutch performances in state title games and regular-season contests.

    Voting is underway for The Courier Journal's girls athlete of the week. The poll closes at 6 p.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced Friday.

    Ellie Beam, Kentucky Country Day, lacrosse

    Bearcats sophomore Ellie Beam scored five goals and added three assists to help KCD defeat Eastern for its third Kentucky Scholastic Lacrosse League title and 10th in program history.

    Grace Bethel, Male, track and field

    Bulldogs freshman Grace Bethel ran the second-fastest 200 meters in the state this season after clocking 24.35 seconds at the Metro Meet of Champions.

    Brooke Bennett, North Oldham, softball

    Senior Brooke Bennett had three home runs and five RBIs to help the Mustangs defeat Marion County, 13-6.

    Mabel George, Assumption, track and field

    Assumption's Mabel George set a personal record, winning the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 14.79 seconds at the Metro Meet of Champions.

    Sadie Hayes, Sacred Heart, softball

    Freshman Sadie Hayes had five hits and seven RBIs to help Sacred Heart go 1-1.
