JD Vance's Kentucky fundraiser appearance to take place in Lexington. What we know

A reception fundraiser for Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance scheduled for Monday has moved to Lexington, campaign officials confirmed to The Courier Journal on Friday.

Vance campaign communications director William Martin confirmed said the Trump 47 Committee-sponsored event, originally scheduled to take place in Pikeville , will instead happen in Lexington. A reason was not provided for the location switch.

The fundraiser will also include appearances by Congressman Andy Barr, ambassadors Kelly and Joe Craft, treasurers KC and Scott Crosbie, Marion and Terry Forcht, Kathryn and Terry Green and Cindy and committeeman John McCarthy.

Kelly Craft told The Courier Journal Thursday morning during the Kentucky State Fair Ham Breakfast that Vance is her friend and she is excited to host him in Kentucky next week.

"We are very proud to have someone who started in the state of Kentucky and has never left his roots," she said.

In a statement released Monday, Kentucky Democratic Party Chair Colmon Elridge said Vance deciding to appear in Kentucky ran counter to Vance's previous stance of calling east Kentucky residents "lazy."

"JD Vance can try to keep pretending to be an Appalachian, but a ritzy fundraiser — moved out of Pikeville to Lexington — isn’t doing his charade any justice," Elridge said. "To put it bluntly, he ain’t from here."

Tickets begin at $2,500 per person or $5,000 per couple, with photo opportunities available for $15,000 per couple, according to reception details.
