    Starting 5: Louisville volleyball, Kentucky set to begin seasons at NCAA Final Four site

    Louisville and Kentucky 's women's volleyball teams will open their seasons Tuesday at the AVCA First Serve Showcase at the KFC Yum! Center, the site of this season's NCAA Division I Final Four.

    The ninth-ranked Wildcats are set to square off against second-ranked Nebraska at 7 p.m. The sixth-ranked Cardinal s are scheduled to play third-ranked Wisconsin at 9 p.m.

    Louisville football coach Jeff Brohm's radio show begins Wednesday at Roosters in Fern Creek.

    For 10 of the shows , which run through Nov. 26, fans can attend a live viewing at 5338 Bardstown Road. Fans attending the shows will be allowed one item to be signed by Brohm or the players in attendance.

    All 12 shows will broadcast on 93.9 The Ville and 970 WGTK and run from 7 to 8 p.m. ET.

    Around the state: Monroe County football celebrates milestone

    On Friday night, Monroe County defeated Todd County, 44-13, for its first win of the season. Falcons head coach John Petett earned his 100th career win.

    Last year, the Falcons reached the second round of the Class 2A playoffs before losing to Lexington Christian.

    High school recruiting: St. Xavier baseball player Cooper Mattingly commits to Spalding

    St. Xavier High School senior pitcher Cooper Mattingly recently announced his commitment to Spalding University.

    As a junior, Mattingly struck out 27 batters and recorded four wins with a 2.31 ERA in 30 ⅓ innings .

    • Racing Louisville FC will host Seattle Reign at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
    • Louisville City FC will visit North Carolina FC at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
    • The Louisville Bats will visit the Indianapolis Indians in a seven-game series beginning at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday. They play again at 5:35 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader, then Thursday through Saturday at 7:05 p.m. The last game of the series is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. Sept. 1.
    • Louisville men's soccer will visit Tulsa at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
    • Louisville women's soccer will visit Cincinnati at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Cardinals will host Evansville at 7 p.m. Sept. 1.
    • Louisville field hockey will visit Maryland at 6 p.m. Friday and American University at 1 p.m. Sept. 1.
