    From coffee to pizza, 9 restaurants opened in late August in Louisville: What to know

    Before August goes away, let’s take a look at the restaurants that have come around.

    The Courier Journal has reported on the recent openings of Crust & Crumb, Derby City Pizza, Fry Daddy's, Las Margaritas Mexican, Madeline's Nibbles and Wine, McDonald's, Mr. C's Cheesecakes and Popeye's.

    August also saw the slipping away of restaurants such as Pig Beach BBQ, the huge spot at Waterfront Park. Khalil's on Dixie Highway announced via social media it will close on Aug. 31.

    7 Brew

    A growing quick-stop coffee brand that offers more than 20,000 unique drink combinations, opened another Louisville drive-through at 5000 Maple Spring Drive.

    City Dogs

    A new hot dog stand celebrating the many takes on hot dogs, based on your city, is serving up for the first time this weekend and will pop up at local bars such as NoraeBar, Atomic Sound Club and ShopBar.

    Est 1927 by Marigold

    There's a new spot to grab a bite inside the Speed Art Museum, 2035 S. 3rd St. as Est 1927 by Marigold opened Aug. 21. Before it opened, The Courier Journal got a sneak peek at the spot previously occupied for eight years by the Wiltshire At The Speed. After the eatery, run by Wiltshire Pantry , closed in December 2023, it was announced a concept from the owners, husband-and-wife team Kris and Adrienne Cole, of The House of Marigold and Marigold Catering Company would move in.

    Gary's Máka Mia Pizza

    There's still pizza to be had at the former spot of a longtime Louisville favorite, Iroquois Pizza. Gary's Máka Mia opened Aug. 15, bringing a "passion for authentic, delicious pizza to the community," according to its website. "Our pizzas are crafted with the finest ingredients, from hand-tossed dough and homemade sauce to top-quality meats and fresh vegetables," the site states.

    Jersey Mike’s

    There's nothing that new about the recipe for Jersey Mike's Subs , but we know it's a standby for fresh sliced and grilled sandwiches. A new location of the franchise opened at 7941 Bardstown Road in Louisville on Aug. 21.

    "Jersey Mike’s believes that making a sub sandwich and making a difference can be one and the same," a statement about the new spot said in a press release.

    Renshoku Ramen

    A popular spot for ramen is back rocking and rolling at its 2nd Street location. The restaurant is open 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Tuesday to Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday.

    Segreto

    There's something new to check out at the European-influenced Perso, which promises top-level dishes . Perso opened a speakeasy-style garden bar called Segreto on Aug. 21.

    Takashi

    A new place for sushi, steak and poke bowls has taken off on Bardstown Road. Takashi opened Aug. 16.

    Witches Brew Coffee

    Got your sights set on spooky season already? This coffee shop, sure to go-to spot around Halloween and beyond, opened Aug. 30. T he Courier Journal got a sneak recently.
