No, University of Louisville Women's Basketball Coach Jeff Walz is not the brother of Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and he let everyone know it during a news conference Tuesday.

The basketball coach has been at the center of online confusion, as people have been mistaking him for the vice presidential hopeful, who does have a brother named Jeff.

Tim Walz's brother has written on Facebook that he is "100% opposed" to his brother's political views," according to a Newsweek report . The apparent discord between Tim Walz and his brother is the subject of many messages the women's basketball coach receives.

"Believe me, being Jeff Walz right now, you should see the emails I get," Walz said.

The women's basketball coach joked about several instances where he exchanged emails with people who misjudged him as Tim Walz's brother. He's been on the receiving end of multiple insults as a result of the coincidence of names.

"I'm told my family's embarrassed of me. How could I turn on my brother? My parents probably disowned me by now," he said.

During the news conference, the women's basketball coach said he's even taken the time to call a few of the mistaken people who list their phone numbers in emails, recollecting conversations with people who are convinced they're speaking with Tim Walz's brother.

"There's nothing better than when they leave their phone number at the bottom. Oh, I call," Walz said.

Walz clarified that he does have two brothers and a sister, none of whom are named Tim. He also used the discussion as an opportunity to discuss the responsible social media habits he tries to instill in the young athletes he coaches.

"Social media, it's good for many things if you're smart about it. But it can also be terrible, especially as an athlete," Walz said.

He mentioned how sports fans using social media to disparage athletes' performances can be harmful, which he tries to guard his players from.

"We tell our players all the time, 'be careful,'" Walz said.
