Louisville football's perfect season came to an end Saturday, resulting in the Cardinals dropping to 22nd in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 released Sunday.

Besides dealing with injuries , the Cardinals sustained too many self-inflicted mistakes in their 31-24 loss at Notre Dame. They're now 4-38-1 on the road against AP Top 25 teams. That history doesn't bode well for a Cardinals team that has to play at Clemson (No. 14 in Coaches Poll, No. 15 in AP poll) and at Kentucky, which upset Ole Miss , previously ranked No. 5, on the road.

Louisville benefits from getting No. 8 Miami at home in three weeks. U of L will look to rebound from its Week 5 loss in preparation for what could be another top-25 matchup at L&N Stadium. The last top-25 game at the Cardinals' home field ended in a 23-0 victory over No. 21 Duke on Oct. 28, 2023.

U of L plays host to SMU at noon Saturday. The Mustangs defeated Florida State , 42-16, in their first ACC game.
