    Former IN sheriff Jamey Noel previously appeared on A&E's '60 Days In.' What we know

    Jamey Noel, the former Clark County, Indiana sheriff recently sentenced to 15 years in prison once advocated for jail reform on a prison TV series.

    Noel used to claim a desire for reform in the Clark County Jail when he appeared in the first two seasons of the A&E prison series " 60 Days In ." Released in 2016, Noel's "unprecedented program" featured ordinary people without prior convictions undercover in jail to bring a unique perspective and provide feedback.

    In episode one of the first season, Noel said, "It was apparent that drastic change needed to take place immediately." In part, due to "corruption (that) had risen to the highest office," in regards to former sheriff Danny Rodden .

    Who is Jamey Noel?

    Noel is the former Clark County sheriff who served from 2015-2022. Indiana State Police began investigating in June 2023 after accusations of Noel hiring county employees to do work for his personal interests, using a business credit card for private purposes and falsifying documents to help an officer receive unauthorized pension funds , among other things. He ultimately pleaded guilty to 27 charges and was later sentenced to 15 years in prison.

    Noel and his wife, Misty Noel, who filed for divorce earlier this year, have three daughters. Kasey Noel, along with her mother, also face felony charges and await their separate trials .

    Indiana State Police investigators said the three family members used thousands of dollars in public funds to pay for various personal items, including clothing, jewelry and household goods.

    Former Clark County sheriff appears on prison show '60 Days In'

    The first two seasons of "60 Days In" feature Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville during Noel's time as sheriff. The program, with seven participants each season, was overseen by then-Captain Scottie Maples, who is now the current sheriff of Clark County, and few jail employees were aware of the program.

    Scottie Maples, the former captain, is now the Clark County sheriff. He'd previously requested the investigation into Noel's activities by Indiana State Police.

    What is "60 Days In" and is it real?

    "60 Days In" is an A&E docuseries featuring incarcerated volunteers who go undercover in various U.S. prisons for up to 60 days. The first two seasons of the series took place in Jeffersonville. After filming, Noel told The Courier Journal that five corrections officers were fired and four resigned while the show aired.

    He said the seasons were filmed in 120 days, with 10 days in between seasons. Noel also said prison staff wasn't informed of the program until after the second set of participants were released.

    The Courier Journal previously reported that the jail also saw financial benefits. First Timers Holdings LLC, the production company that filmed the series, paid the jail $500 a day to film. Noel said that totaled to $51,000 over both seasons, to be used "for jail equipment and officer training.
