INDOT removing stoplight at Grimm Road now that 'displaced left turn' is open on Ind. 66

NEWBURGH — With the installation of the dual displaced left turn on Indiana 66 and Epworth Road complete, a nearby traffic signal is coming down.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the light at Indiana 66 and Grimm Road was turned off Tuesday and will be removed.

The intersection at Grimm Road turns toward major developments. Those turning could be heading toward a new Starbucks, checking into a hotel, visiting the Islamic Center or stopping for gas at the Fastbreak.

"Grimm will have a flashing stop sign for both directions and (Indiana) 66 will not have to stop," INDOT spokesperson Gary Brian said. "This light was only in operation during construction of the Epworth road intersection to help traffic flow during construction."

The displaced left turns at Indiana 66 and Epworth Road opened Tuesday.

Drivers in the area will experience new traffic movements, as all left turns are now made in two steps instead of one.

Epworth will be one of four displaced left turn intersections on the Lloyd Expressway after all construction is complete.
