    Here are 5 things you can do this weekend in the Evansville area

    Septemeber is here, but that doesn't mean there's a shortage of local activities. In fact, it's likely just the opposite: As the weather cools off, there's more to do in the Evansville area.

    Here are five things you can check out in the Tri-State over the coming days.

    Front Porch Fest at Haynie's Corner

    Saturday (3-9 p.m.) and Sunday (4-9 p.m.) in the Haynie's Corner Arts District in Evansville. No admission cost.

    The Front Porch Fest is an annual free music festival hosted on front porches in the Haynie's Corner Arts District. Food trucks will also be on location. The artists' genres range from acoustic and country to pop, Americana, grunge and bluegrass, with some classick rock and folk music sprinkled in.

    Willard Public Library Better Books Sale

    Through Sept. 8 at Willard Public Library, 21 N. First Ave.

    The Willard Library Better Books Sale features everything from rare titles and first editions to yearbooks, children's books, antiques and more. Thursday marks the start of the half-price sales session, and Friday, Saturday and Sunday are "bag sale" days. The sale takes place in the Browning Gallery in the library's lower level during regular library business hours. All purchases can be made using cash, check and credit cards.

    Tiny JazzFest 24 at Newburgh Riverfront

    Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Allen Family Amphitheater, 622 French Island Trail in Newburgh. Tickets are $10.

    Join the Newburgh Arts Commission and Under the Radar for two evenings of jazz. Leah Warman, composer and trombonist will be leading her band on Friday. Caroline Davis, saxophonist, flutist, vocalist, composer and educator leads her ALULA ensemble on Saturday. Attendees can bring blankets, recliners and coolers. Accross the street from the stage, the Old Lock & Dam building will be transformed into an art gallery featuring an array of works with local artists on hand.

    John Wesley re-enactor at Trinity UMC

    Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 216 SE Third St. in Evansville.

    Trinity United Methodist Church invites the public to experience history come alive with a special historical reenactment. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, will be portrayed by the Rev. Bert Kite ofIndianapolis. This event will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church as a part of the church’s year-longbicentennial celebration. Admission is free, and families are warmly encouraged to attend. Wesley, born in 1703, was the son of an Anglican priest and is renowned as the founder of the Methodist movement. A graduate of Oxford University's Lincoln College, Wesley’s life was marked by tireless dedication to his faith. He traveled over 250,000 miles on horseback, preached more than 50,000 sermons, and played a pivotal role in establishing a movement that would grow into a global church, now numbering in the tens of millions of followers.

    Little Kids, Big Promise event

    Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library East, 840 E. Chandler Ave.

    Families with children ages 5 and under will be connected to early health and education resources at the first "Little Kids, Big Promise" event hosted in collaboration with Evansville Promise Neighborhood partners. The free event will also include giveaways and fun activities for children, provided by partners from the Early Health and Education focus area within the EPN. EVPL staff will also provide storytimes featuring stories, songs, movement, and play at 10:30 a.m. and noon. Participating organizations will share information about services and provide enrollment in programs that serve families with children under age 5.
