MAN Unit marijuana investigation bags a bunch of illegal pot

Agents of the Multi-Area Narcotics Unit, along with agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), responded to the report of an illegal marijuana grow in Defiance County’s Mark Township and seized approximately 35 plants.

A file will be presented to the Defiance County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges related to illegal cultivation of marijuana, according to a MAN Unit press release.

A helicopter was used to locate the marijuana.

The press release reminded area residents that marijuana cultivation continues to be regulated by state law, specifically Ohio Revised Code section 3780.29 Home Grow.

Cultivating, growing and possessing not more than six cannabis plants at the individual’s primary residence by an adult over 21 is lawful in Ohio if all of the following apply:

• not more than 12 cannabis plants are cultivated or grown at a single residence where two or more individuals who are at least 21 years of age reside at any one time.

• cultivation or growing of adult use cannabis only takes place within a secured closet, room, greenhouse, or other enclosed area in or on the grounds of the residence that prevents access by individuals less than 21 years of age and which is not visible by normal unaided vision from a public space.

The MAN Unit covers the counties of Defiance, Henry, Fulton, Paulding, Putnam and Williams.
