The American Red Cross will host several blood drives in Denton County this month during a significant nationwide blood shortage. The Red Cross “continues to experience a national blood emergency as remnants of Hurricane Debby and other severe weather events across the country have further complicated efforts to rebuild the nation’s blood supply,” the organization said in a news release last week. Kitchen fire quickly extinguished at restaurant on the Denton Square
A popular Denton restaurant will be closed this week after a kitchen fire late Monday night. The Denton Fire Department responded to a reported fire at Barley & Board, 100 W. Electric vehicle company moving headquarters to southern Denton County
An electrical vehicle company announced this month that it is moving its headquarters to southern Denton County. In its second-quarter results released Aug. 14, Canoo mentioned that it is moving operations to Justin. WFAA reported that Canoo leaders have been working in Justin for the last three years, and the company will offer relocation to 137 of 194 employees at the current headquarters in Torrance, California, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Two highly anticipated drive-thru businesses opened Friday in southern Denton County. In celebration of the opening, Chick-fil-A has donated $25,000 to Feeding America to support local hunger relief efforts in the area, according to a company news release. The funds will be distributed between Tarrant Area Food Bank and North Texas Food Bank. In addition, Chick-fil-A Argyle is recognizing 100 local heroes making an impact in the Argyle area by providing them with free Chick-fil-A entrées for a year.
1 Dallas officer killed, 2 injured; suspect killed in Lewisville
A man suspected of killing one Dallas Police Department officer and injuring two others overnight led police on a chase to Lewisville, where he was fatally shot. About 10:10 p.m. Thursday, Dallas police responded to an officer in distress in the 900 block of E. Ledbetter Drive in Oak Cliff. Responding officers found an officer shot in a marked squad car, according to a Dallas Police Department news release. Those responding officers exchanged gunfire with a suspect at the scene, and two officers were shot.
