CURRY, Ala. – After handling Addison at home last week, the Good Hope Raiders were back on the road Friday night to take on the Curry Yellow Jackets. Good Hope built a 33-3 lead by halftime and with some younger Raiders in the game in the second half, they cruised to a 39-3 win to remain undefeated.

Curry opened the game with an onside kick and recovered it to start its first possession with great field position. However, the Raider defense forced a turnover on downs just four plays later and the Raider offense wasted no time in taking advantage of the field position. A big run from Mason Drake moved the ball down into Yellow Jacket territory and Carter Rutherford took a handoff 31 yards for a touchdown on the next play to give Good Hope a 7-0 lead.

On the next Raider possession, Drake burst through the middle of the line and found the end zone from about 45 yards out to stretch the lead to 14-0 midway through the first quarter. After Good Hope’s defense came up with another stop, Tyler Cone ran one down to the Curry 2-yard line and punched it into the end zone on the next play to make it a 21-0 game.

A 23-yard touchdown pass from Cone to Ayden Young extended the lead to 27-0 later in the second quarter and a few plays later, Rutherford returned a Yellow Jackets punt all the way back for a touchdown to put the Raiders in front 33-0 with two minutes remaining in the first half.

Curry was able to get on the board before halftime with a 45-yard field goal as time expired, trimming the lead to 33-3 at the break. They were the first points the Raiders have allowed since their 27-7 win at Haleyville on Sept. 13.

Good Hope added to its lead in the third quarter when Karson Hollis took a handoff 68 yards for another touchdown, putting the Raiders ahead 39-3 midway through the third. Neither team was able to find the end zone again the rest of the way and Good Hope left Curry with a 39-3 win over the Yellow Jackets.

The Raiders improve to 6-0 with the win and they’ll be back home next week for a big region game with Hamilton.
