Berlin Town Council views 2025 budget, talks park project

BERLIN, Ala. – The Berlin Town Council on Monday took a look at its proposed 2025 budget, including $500,000 for its park and recreation project and nearly $300,000 for road work in the town. The budget includes $600,000 carried over from the FY 2024 General Fund, and $310,050.50 in estimated revenue for the coming year. An estimate gives the Town a $191,550 surplus at the end of FY 2025.

Berlin’s Road Fund, separate from the General Fund, anticipates $302,000 in revenue and $295,000 in expenses, $250,000 of which is dedicated to repaving.

Following discussion of its park and recreation project, with $500,000 in the proposed Capital Fund, the council voted to focus on development of a farmers market building, parking lot and playground in the coming year. Proposals for building a permanent bathroom building were tabled due to high estimated construction costs.

The council can vote on the proposed budget at its September meeting.

The council also voted to:

• Adopt a transportation plan under the Rebuild Alabama Act for work on Mt. Carmel Drive
• Make an addendum to it farmers market regulations exempting vendors with at least 50% homegrown produce from needing a business license, and requiring those selling food not at least 50% homegrown to meet health department regulations
• Donate $5,000 to the Berlin Volunteer Fire Department for new radios
• Donate $475 to the North Alabama Agriplex

The Berlin Town Council meets at 7 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at Berlin Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
