VINEMONT, Ala. – The Vinemont Town Council was scheduled to hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8. However, since there was no quorum, the meeting was rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 15.

Business on the agenda and up for vote cannot pass unless a quorum is established for the meeting – meaning a majority of the sitting council members must be present. For Vinemont, that means three of its five members must be present in addition to the mayor.

On the agenda for the rescheduled meeting are discussions about upcoming events and festivities, as well as new business

    New business will include:

    • A bill from the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation totaling $28,463
    • A mural on the side of the community storm shelter behind the Vinemont-Providence Fire Department at a cost of $1,000; local artist Jack Tupper has agreed to take the commission, pending council approval

The council will also touch on Vinemont’s Chillin’ & Grillin’ BBQ Fest, which will be held at the Vinemont Sportsplex on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event will feature a barbecue grill-off as well as the Battle of the Heroes, set to see which emergency services team can grill the best chicken wings.  Vendors, live music and family friendly activities will also be on-site at the festival for the event’s duration.

Other upcoming events include the Town’s monthly Senior Luncheon, which will be  held on Monday, Oct. 21. The municipality will also host a community trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 27 from 4-6 p.m. at the Vinemont Schools campus.

The Town will also bring back its community Thanksgiving meal to the Vinemont Schools lunchroom on Nov. 23. Council members, along with community volunteers, will serve a traditional Thanksgiving for the community, free of charge. Look for more details soon.

The Vinemont Town Council will meet for its rescheduled meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with the work session beginning at 5 p.m. and the meeting to follow at 6.
