St. Bernard students join hurricane relief effort for rural Georgia

CULLMAN, Ala. – Students and faculty at St. Bernard Preparatory School have mobilized to support hurricane relief efforts, with a focus on aiding the storm-ravaged community of Kite, Georgia. Jonathan Farley, St. Bernard’s music instructor, is coordinating the initiative alongside his aunt, Jamie Hutchins, with the assistance of Betty Jo Vincent and her family, owners of Vincent Furniture.

The relief response has been overwhelming, with families, local businesses and churches working together to bring much-needed supplies to Kite. The rural area was devastated by hurricane-force winds reaching 109 mph, leaving the community without power or water for over nine days. While a mobile laundry service has been established, they are running low on essential supplies like detergent.

“We are so grateful for everyone who has contributed so far,” said Farley. “Initially, the supplies were set to be sent to North Carolina, but due to the abundance of donations there, we are redirecting efforts to Kite, Georgia.”

In Kite, Light House Ministries will serve as the distribution center, with Amanda Harry acting as the local point of contact for coordinating the relief efforts. St. Bernard students have played a key role in organizing, loading and collecting supplies. Their efforts represent the school’s values of service, leadership and community outreach.
