The offices are set to reopen on Wednesday, August 7. Currently, the county and city are conducting a Damage Assessment to address the impact of the recent events. Public Works crews from both the City and County worked overnight to clean up debris and manage stormwater. Glynn County experienced 35 reports of downed trees, while the City of Brunswick had 3 reports. Additionally, power outages spiked at 9000 during Debby, but have since reduced to around 1000. State of Emergency declaration

1:04 p.m .: Both Glynn County Commission Chairman Wayne Neal and the City of Brunswick Mayor Cosby Johnson declared a State of Emergency this morning. The emergency declaration will remain in effect until the county commission chairman declares the state of emergency complete, not just when the storm passes.

    Key Impacts to Glynn County:

Timing: Excessive rainfall with flash flooding is likely through Wednesday morning. Wind, tornado, and marine impacts are also ongoing. Due to the expected slow motion of Debby, impacts could last into mid-week.

Glynn County is currently under a tornado watch and a storm surge warning for coastal areas.

Rainfall and Flooding: As much as 10-20 inches of rainfall are possible in some areas between the storm’s arrival and Friday.

We could expect 6-12 inches of rain, with potential for 12-20 inches if the storm slows. This could lead to flash flooding, inundation of homes, and road washouts. Moderate to major river flooding is possible.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and the National Weather Service are forecasting heavy rains – possibly as much as twenty inches for some Georgia coastal areas – as “historic” with potential for extreme flooding and rainfall.

Wind: Tornadoes are possible on Monday and Tuesday. Forecasters also warn that storm surge of 2 to 4 feet is likely, but the primary threat is heavy rainfall which could last 36 – 48 hours beginning Monday afternoon.
