The City of Brookings announced another two Yard of the Month winners for September. In a continued effort to encourage community beautification, the City looks to reward both residents and businesses for the hard work they do to keep Brookings a beautiful place to live.

Winners receive a commemorative certificate, a yard-sign to display for the month, along with a $50 credit on their next water bill from the City.

A commercial and residential winner are chosen each month. Here are winners for September’s Yard of the Month award:

    US Bank – 325 5th Street

Brookings’ new Building Inspector, Terry Konrady, got the opportunity to hit the town and scout out a winner for this month’s commercial yard. This month were heading to the corner of 5th and Railroad.

The local branch of US Bank here in Brookings has some wonderful landscaping touches. Carefully sculpted hedges and shrubs surround the building, giving it a manicured, high-class look. Amber Lei Harkins, the branch manager for this location, was on hand to receive the certificate from Konrady and City Manager Tim Rundel.

Laurey & Mark Billings – 830 Crestwood Place

The Billings’ front yard on Crestwood is certainly a standout, hence why it was nominated for the award by its neighbors. The Billings have installed an island in the yard complete with a water feature. Potted and bedded flowers provide a pop of color, and string lights provide some seasonal glow in the evening.

City Staff was impressed to learn from Mark Billings that the yard’s irrigation system was self-installed, providing a proprietary and efficient water source for the lawn. A feat of landscaping and agricultural engineering, join us in congratulating the Billings on their contribution to Brookings’ beautification.

If you would like to make a nomination for next month’s award anyone can reach out to Lauri Zeimer or Brooklyn Osterhage with the City of Brookings.
