The Northeastern High School girls and boys basketball teams, along with the Perquimans County High School girls basketball team, are headed to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association tournament that begins on Tuesday.

Perquimans is the number two seed in the 1A East bracket, matched up with the number 31 seed Oxford Prep. Perquimans, which is playing at home, is looking to make a deep run in the tournament after a stellar season where they were crowned back-to-back Four Rivers Conference regular season champions.

The Pirates fell by one point in the conference tournament title game, coming up just short of claiming both the regular season and tournament championships. Perquimans finished the year 22-4 and a perfect 10-0 in conference play.

The Northeastern girls basketball team enters the tournament as the seven seed in the 2A East bracket, matched up with 26 seed North Lenoir. That game will be played at Northeastern High School on Tuesday night. Tip-off time is to be determined.

The Eagles capped off their regular season championship with a win over Hertford County on Friday night to win the Northeastern Coastal Conference tournament championship. The Northeastern girls finished their season 20-7 overall and 14-1 in conference play.

If the NHS girls win on Tuesday night they will host a second-round game as well, facing the winner of Goldsboro and James Kenan.

The Northeastern High School boys enter the tournament as the number 17 seed in the 2A East bracket and will travel to play 16 seed Kinston on Tuesday night. If they win, they will be face the winner of number-one seed Farmville Central and Ayden-Grifton.

Northeastern faced Farmville Central twice in the regular season, losing to them both times. Farmville is 25-1 overall and finished 13-0 in their conference, winning both the regular season and tournament championship.

The Eagles won a share of the regular season Northeastern Coastal Conference championship, along with First Flight and Hertford County high schools. They made it to the tournament championship game, ultimately falling to Hertford County 45-35 on Friday night.

Northeastern finished its regular season with a 19-8 record and 12-3 in NCC play.
