    High School roundup: Bruins blank Hatteras in soccer 3-0

    BUXTON — The Camden Bruins girls soccer team defeated the Cape Hatteras High School Hurricanes 3-0 on Thursday in a non-conference game for both clubs.

    Camden scored all three of its goals in the second half.

    Kaelyn Windham, Emma Nobles and Annalise Barlow each scored a goal while Lillian Johnson and Grace Schratweiser each had an assist.

    Currituck 9, Northeastern 0The Currituck County Knights blanked the Northeastern Eagles 9-0 in soccer on Thursday.

    Lisa Phillips scored four goals and had four assists to lead the Knights, who scored five goals in the first half and four in the second half.

    Makayla Shea also had two goals for Currituck, while Abigail Smith had a goal and two assists and M. Meekins and S. Merritt each had a goal.

    Softball

    Holmes 10, Gates County 0The John A. Holmes Aces no-hit the Gates County Red Barons on Thursday in a 10-0 non-conference win.

    Mia Hoffer pitched six innings of no-hit ball, giving up only one walk while striking out eight Red Baron hitters.

    Holmes scored one run in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth and three in sixth.

    Ellie Spear led the Aces’ eight-hit attack, collecting two. She also knocked in a run and scored three times.

    Marley Harrell also had two hits, knocked in a run and scored two runs. Chloe Chappell also had a couple of hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Harper Evans also had a double and scored a run. Morgan Nixon had a run batted in.

    Currituck 10, First Flight 5

    The Currituck Knights softball team doubled up the First Flight Nighthawks 10-5 in a home conference game on Thursday.

    Addy Romanczyk got the complete-game win, giving up five earned runs while scattering 10 hits in seven innings of work. She also walked two and struck out nine Nighthawk hitters.

    Savannah Banks led the Knights’ six-hit attack, collecting two hits and knocking in two runs while scoring one herself.

    Ebony Bailey had the big blow for the Knights, driving in three runs. She also scored two runs.

    Mimi Shields also had a double and knocked in two runs, while A. Cervantes also had a double and scored two runs. K. Hassel also had a hit and scored a run. Taylor Clark, Kendra Daniels and Romanczyk also had a run batted in each.

    Camden 14, Manteo 2The Camden Bruins softball team shut down conference rival Manteo on the road Thursday 14-2.

    Camden scored one run in the first, two in the second, three in the fourth and then exploded for eight runs in the fifth. Manteo didn’t score until its home half of the fifth, when the Redskins plated two runs. It wasn’t enough, though, and the game was run-ruled.

    Carlyn Tanis led the Bruins’ eight-hit attack, collecting two of them. She also scored two runs and knocked in two more.

    Emma Young also had two hits, scored a run and knocked in one. Ellie Barker had a triple and knocked in a run. She also scored two runs.

    Kaitlynn Barnes had a hit, scored a run and knocked in a run.

    Ruby Arnette knocked in three runs and scored two runs. She also swiped three of the Bruins’ seven stolen bases in the game.

    A. Anderson also knocked in two runs and scored one. Caleigh Martin also had an RBI and scored a run.

    In other girls softball on Thursday, Pasquotank County blanked cross county rival Northeastern 19-0.

    Baseball

    The Currituck County Knights defeated the First Flight Nighthawks 7-6 in extra innings Thursday.

    First Flight scored two runs in the first, one in the third, two in the fourth and a run in the sixth. Currituck scored one in the third, two in the fourth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh and the game-winner in the eighth.

    Braden Williams, Gabe Taylor and Riley Anderson were the hit leaders for the Knights. Williams got two hits, knocked in two runs and scored two runs. Taylor got two hits and scored two. Anderson got two hits, including a double, scored a run and knocked in one.

    Caryden Barth and D. Espinoza also got hits for the Knights.

    Caleb Dennis started for the Knights and went four innings. He gave up five runs, only two of which were earned, while scattering six hits and walking five batters. He also struck out seven Nighthawk hitters.

    Anderson pitched the last four innings and got the win. He gave up one earned run on five hits and one walk. He struck out five Nighthawk hitters.

    Perquimans 10, Tarboro 0The Perquimans County Pirates shut out the Tarboro Vikings in a home conference game 10-0 on Friday.

    Perquimans scored one run in the second, five in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth to run-rule the game after five innings.

    Cameron Goodrow, Sean Saunders and Ben Brown led the Pirates’ 10-hit attack, collecting two each. Goodrow, who had a double, also knocked in a run and scored a run. Saunders, who had two doubles, also knocked in two runs. Ben Brown, who also had a double, knocked in a run.

    Jacob Askew and Brady Shepherd also had doubles. Shepherd also knocked in two runs.

    Goodrow pitched four innings for the win. He gave up one hit and struck out six Viking hitters. Conner Futrell pitched the fifth inning, giving up only one hit.

    Holmes 6, Hertford County 2The John A. Holmes Aces defeated conference foe Hertford County on Thursday 6-2.

    The Aces scored two runs in the third, and then one each in the last four innings of the seven-inning game. The Bears scored their two runs in the final frame.

    Bycen Newsome had two of the Aces’ five hits. Daniel Hare, Maddox Bass and Myles Cobb had the other three. Cobb and Newsome each drove in a run.

    Darius Oliver went five innings, giving up only one hit. He also walked four batters and struck out seven. Cobb pitched two innings, giving up two earned runs on three hits. He struck out three Bear hitters.

    In other area baseball action Thursday, Camden lost to Manteo at home 6-3.
