    What's Up: City to host meeting on drainage, flooding

    TODAY

    Newbold-White House

    The Perquimans County Restoration Center has reopened the Newbold-White House in Hertford for the season. Guided tours and gift shop hours will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 26. Other tour days can be arranged with two weeks notice by calling 252-426-7567.

    MONDAY

    Adult Book Club

    The Adult Book Club will discuss the book, “Remarkable Bright Creatures” by Shelby Van Pelt, at the Pasquotank County Library from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    EC Rotary Club

    The Elizabeth City Rotary Club will meet in the Parish House at Christ Episcopal Church at 1 p.m. Dr. Jessica Fuller-Hubes, co-owner of Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Pain Specialists, will be the speaker.

    Alzheimer’s support

    The Alzheimer/Dementia Support Group for Caregivers and Family Members will meet at Hertford United Methodist Church, 200 Dobbs St., Hertford, at 1 p.m. Contact: 252-333-7774 or 252-404-7090.

    Lego Club

    The Lego Club will meet in the programming room of the Pasquotank County Library from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Trains” will be the theme.

    Computer classes

    The Pasquotank County Library will host the following computer classes: Excel 2 on Monday; Google Drive on Tuesday Word 2 on Wednesday; and PowerPoint on Thursday, May 16. All classes at 4 p.m. and require pre-registration by calling 335-7536.

    Green Saves Green

    Green Saves Green will meet at the Pasquotank Library at 5:30 p.m. The group will discuss upcoming projects continue discussions on county litter management. Visit: #greensavesgreennc.

    TUESDAY

    Second primary

    Voting will be held in the Republican second primary for lieutenant governor, state auditor and several other offices. Only voters registered Republican or unaffiliated who voted in the March 5 GOP primary or didn’t vote in any primary may vote. Polls will be open in all area counties from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

    Library storytime

    The Pasquotank County Library will host a storytime program with the theme “Frogs” on Tuesday for kids ages 3-5; Wednesday for kids ages 1-2; and Thursday, March 16, for kids 1 and younger. All programs at 10 a.m.

    Alzheimer’s program

    The Alzheimer’s Association will host the program, “Leverage Your Lifestyle for Better Brain Health” at the Pasquotank Library from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

    THURSDAY

    Red Cross blood drive

    The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at the InterCounty Ruritan Club meeting room at 118 Woodville Road, Hertford, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

    Storm flooding, drainage

    The city of Elizabeth City will host an open house to seek resident feedback on drainage issues and how the city can better prepare for storm flooding from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Senior Center.

    FRIDAY

    Perquimans Outdoors

    The Perquimans County Tourism Development Authority will sponsor the program, Perquimans Outdoors, at the Perquimans County Recreation Center, May 17-19.

    NC Potato Festival

    The three-day 2024 NC Potato Festival will be held in downtown Elizabeth City will be held Friday through Sunday, May 17-19. The event features amusement rides, an auto and bike show, free french fries, food and game vendors, live musical entertainment. Featured events include the National Potato Peeling Contest and the Little Miss Tater Tot Contest. Hours Friday are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, www.ncpotatofestival.com.

    Rootle Roadster Tour

    Museum of the Albemarle will host a visit by the PBS North Carolina’s Rootle Roadster Tour for families that include exceptional children Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Register through the Albemarle Alliance for Children and Families. The visit continues Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

    Gates GOP dinner

    The Gates County Republican Party is hosting its first ever Lincoln/Douglas/Reagan Dinner at the Jubilant Fields Equestrian Center at 701 Court St., Gatesville, on Saturday, May 18, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Speakers will include Laurie Buckhout, the GOP candidate for Congress in the 1st House District; Michelle Morrow, GOP candidate for state superintendent of schools; state Rep.     EMT Class Celebration

    College of The Albemarle’s Emergency Medical Services Program will host its Spring 2024 Perquimans High School EMT Class Celebration in the Perquimans County Emergency Services classroom at 159 Creek Drive, Hertford, Monday, May 20, at 8:30 a.m.

    Chamber After Hours

    The Perquimans Chamber of Commerce will host an After Hours Non-host Meet and Greet at the Hertford Bay Taphouse at 107 W. Grubb St., Hertford, Wednesday, May 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

    Library storytime

    The Pasquotank Library will host a storytime program with the theme “A Day at the Zoo” for kids ages 3-5 with an adult Tuesday, May 21; for ages 1-2 on Wednesday, May 22; and 1 and younger on Thursday, May 23. All programs are at 10 a.m.

    Blooming Brushes

    The Pasquotank Library will host the “Blooming Brushes” ceramic flower pot painting program all day on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 21-22. A “Tiny Treasures: Floral Edition” program on painting and decorating mini flower bowls will be held May 28-29. Both programs are all day.

    Red Cross blood drives

    The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Wednesday, May 22, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Ann Catholic Church Parish Hall at 207 N Broad St., Edenton; and on Thursday, May 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom C of the Currituck County Governmental Complex at 2801 Caratoke Highway, Currituck.

    Rose Buddies exhibit

    Museum of the Albemarle will open a banner exhibit celebrating 41 years of the Rose Buddies Tuesday, May 21, from 5 p.m. 7 p.m. Elizabeth Hudson, editor, and Rebecca Woltz, writer, of “Our State” Magazine will be the guests for a reception.

    Red Cross blood drives

    The American Red Cross will host blood drives at the Moyock Elementary School gym at 255 Shingle Landing Road, Moyock, on Friday, May 24, from 12:15 p.m. to 5 p.m.

    Hearts and Heroes

    Perquimans Emergency Services will host its Hearts and Heroes Celebration at American Legion Post 126, 113 West Academy St., Hertford, Saturday, May 25, at 8 a.m. The event will include a breakfast and recognition of survivors and first responders.

    Library storytime

    The Pasquotank Library will host a storytime program with the theme “Strawberries” for kids ages 3-5 with an adult Tuesday, March 28; ages 1-2 on Wednesday, March 29; and 1 and younger on Thursday, March 30. All programs are at 10 a.m.

    Computer classes

    The Pasquotank County Library will host the following computer classes: Word 2 on Monday, May 28; Excel 2 on Tuesday, May 29; and Google Drive 1 on Wednesday, May 30. All classes at 4 p.m. and require pre-registration by calling 335-7536.

    Grilling class
