Ahoskie police are seeking an “armed and dangerous” Elizabeth City man they say shot two people in the Hertford County town Wednesday evening.

Maurice Baum Jr., 20, is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, a press release from the Ahoskie Police Department states.

According to the release, Ahoskie police responded to a reported shooting incident in the 300 block of West Church St., Ahoskie, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived, they were met by two people who had suffered injuries, the release states.

One of the persons was treated at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital and released, the other was transported to Norfolk General Hospital. Citing the investigation, police are not releasing either person’s name at the moment, the release states.

Police were able to develop Baum as a suspect in the shootings. He’s described as 5-foot, 10 inches tall and approximately 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

The Ahoskie Police Department said Baum is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact either their local law enforcement agency or Detective Tyler Burden of the Ahoskie Police Department at 252- 332-5011.
