    Camden fights off upset-minded Farmville Central, 3-2

    CAMDEN — The Camden Bruins volleyball team survived an upset bid by beating Farmville Central 3-2, Wednesday evening.

    The Bruins (13-4, 9-1 Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A Conference) opened the match with a 25-12 win over their non-conference opponent, but the Jaguars would not go away. Farmville Central (12-6, 8-2 NCC) responded by winning the next two matches 25-20 and 25-19.

    Camden coach Ashley Miller rallied her players, who responded by battling back to edge Farmville Central 25-23 in the fourth set. The Bruins kept the momentum going, closing out the match 15-12 in the final set.

    Camden defeated conference opponent Northeastern 25-10, 25-19 and 25-11 at Northeastern on Thursday In other matches, Camden defeated First Flight 3-1 on Tuesday and beat Currituck High 3-1 on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    Perquimans County 3, Washington County 0The Pirates (17-1 overall, 9-0 Four Rivers 1A) defeated conference opponent Washington County 25-0, 25-8 and 25-1 on the road Tuesday.

    The Pirates, who are coached by Kristie Thach, defeated North East Carolina Prep 25-4, 25-7 and 25-5 on Thursday, Sept. 26. Perquimans defeated Tarboro on the road 25-4, 25-11 and 25-5 on Thursday. Tarboro is winless at 0-15.

    Currituck 3, Northeastern 0Currituck (5-10 overall, 4-6 Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A) defeated the Eagles 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17 in Elizabeth City, Tuesday.

    The Currituck Knights, who are coached by Christopher Ferretti, lost 3-0 to Manteo on Tuesday and fell 3-1 to Camden on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    Currituck was scheduled to play John A. Holmes in Edenton on Thursday.

    Northeastern 3, Hertford 1

    Northeastern (7-9 overall, 3-7 Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A) defeated Hertford County 3-1 on Tuesday but dropped a match with Holmes 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 26. The Eagles are coached by Kandis Rainey.

    John A. Holmes 3, Pasquotank County 0

    The visiting Holmes Aces defeated the host Pasquotank Panthers 25-8, 25-14 and 25-14 on Tuesday. Holmes (16-3, 9-2) is coached by Malorie Stockwell and is in third place in the Northeastern Coastal 2A/3A standings.

    The Aces also defeated Currituck by a match score of 3-0 on Thursday, and beat Northeastern 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 26.

    Manteo 3, Pasquotank 0

    The Panthers (1-11, 1-9) lost to conference leader Manteo (16-3 overall) 25-8, 25-19 and 25-22 on Thursday. The Panthers, who are coached by Vanessa Kee Person, dropped a 3-0 match to Camden on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
