A love for baking that began in childhood has turned into a flourishing business for Lafayette native Havilyn Alexander, the founder and baker behind The Bakery’s Jar, a home-based bakery serving up decadent desserts in a unique format— jars.

Founded in 2022 and recently relaunched in July 2024, The Bakery’s Jar offers a variety of treats, such as cheesecakes, cakes, brownies and cookie dough, all conveniently served in jars. The concept allows for portion control, portability, and a playful twist on classic dessert favorites. But for Alexander, it's about much more than just selling sweet treats.

“My passion for baking started when I was just a child,” Alexander said. “I took a baking class one summer, and that’s where I really began to explore different flavors and get creative with what I could do in the kitchen.”

That early spark evolved into a full-fledged business when Alexander began baking cake parfaits for her church. During those gatherings, she realized she wanted to share her love of baking with the world. In 2022, The Bakery’s Jar was born.

“Providing treats for my church really solidified my passion for serving others through baking,” she said. “Seeing the joy it brought to people made me want to do more, and that’s when I knew I wanted to make this into a business.”

Though it started small, the bakery quickly gained a following, leading Alexander to a successful relaunch in 2024. Along with her signature jarred desserts, The Bakery’s Jar now offers catering services for events like weddings, birthdays, corporate functions and baby showers.

“I wanted to take things to the next level,” Alexander said. “We’re offering personalized treats for all kinds of special occasions, and I’m so excited to see where this journey takes us.”

But Alexander has even bigger plans for the future.

“My ultimate goal is to open a storefront,” she said. “And, God willing, I’d love to expand The Bakery’s Jar to multiple locations across different states.”
