    How two churches in Somerset County are celebrating milestone anniversaries this weekend

    Two Somerset County churches are celebrating milestone anniversaries with special events planned this weekend.

    St. Thomas Lutheran Church, Hooversville

    The church will host a two-day celebration of its 150th anniversary with a church picnic on Saturday and an anniversary worship service on Sunday.

    Saturday's picnic is scheduled from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church grove, 1439 Ridge Road. Events include a bounce house and activities for the kids, corn hole games and music by the Glory Guys United for Christ. A roast beef sandwich dinner will be sold at the grove from 4:30 p.m. until the food is gone. After dinner, a hymn sing takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the church and fireworks are to follow at 9:15 p.m.

    The 150th anniversary worship service will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at the church, with Bishop Dan Selbo of the North American Lutheran Church as the guest preacher. A covered dish dinner will be held at the church grove after the worship service.

    St. Thomas Lutheran Church is located at 1439 Ridge Road in Hooversville and the pastor is the Rev. Nila Cogan.

    Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, Boswell

    The church will celebrate its 75th anniversary of ministry on Sunday with an anniversary worship service at 10:45 a.m. Evangelist Bill Hall will give the morning message.

    Lunch is to be served on the church grounds after morning worship, and a second worship service will take place at 2 p.m.

    Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle is an independent Baptist congregation founded by Chauncey J. Ickes and currently led by pastor Gary Anderson. The church is located at 7415 Somerset Pike, Boswell.
